Candlelight Book Club – December Reads

This month’s book club picks make me want to jump around in excitement. Both are books I have been wanting to pick up for the longest time, and now I have the perfect opportunity to do so.

To join or find out more about the Candlelight Book Club, be sure to check out Ann’s bookstagram (@booksinjupiter), the book club’s Instagram (@candlelightbookclub) and Discord (here).

🕯 The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

‘Frost-demons have no interest in mortal girls wed to mortal men. In the stories, they only come for the wild maiden.’

In a village at the edge of the wilderness of northern Russia, where the winds blow cold and the snow falls many months of the year, an elderly servant tells stories of sorcery, folklore and the Winter King to the children of the family, tales of old magic frowned upon by the church.

But for the young, wild Vasya these are far more than just stories. She alone can see the house spirits that guard her home, and sense the growing forces of dark magic in the woods…

🕯 From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.

After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.

But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.

Including Ivan Lukov.

A big thank-you to Ann for creating this book club and for surprising us with a buddy read for the month! I am so, so excited.

Keep reading and never stop telling stories.
