SUMMER 2020 WRAP UP

These past few months have gone by in the blink of an eye and so, summer has come to an end. It is difficult to believe we are entering a new season so soon, but it is very much needed after the extreme heat we have been experiencing this summer.

I have read quite a few books this season and cannot wait to share a few of my thoughts on them with you. Most of these books are still to be reviewed, therefore I will only write a mini review for each. 

For this wrap up, I will only be talking about the six books I have read so far this year. I talked a bit about the one book I read in December in my December Wrap Up which you can find here, if you are interested.

Without further ado, let us look at the books I read this summer!

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories (The Folk of the Air #3.5)
by Holly Black

R A T I N G : 

I was so excited when Holly Black announced that we will finally get to read Cardan’s story, and my excitement only increased when she shared the beautiful artwork we will find inside the book.

Cardan’s story did not disappoint. I loved reading what happened in his childhood, what he thought and how he grew into the Cardan we have known through the years.

Overall, it was a really well written and beautifully done novella and I am more than glad to add the stunning hardcover to my collection.

The Cousins
by Karen M. McManus

R A T I N G :

When I heard Karen M. McManus was releasing a new mystery/thriller, I just knew I had to get my hands on it. I binge read her other books a while back and thoroughly enjoyed them, and this one was no different.

The characters immediately intrigued me. From the moment you meet not only the cousins but also their parents, you get the feeling that everyone is hiding something. As the story goes on, small secrets are revealed but as with most mysteries, the ending is the thing that ends up shocking you the most.

A Deal with the Elf King (Married to Magic #1)
by Elise Kova

R A T I N G :

This book was one I saw around the book community quite a few times and so, I decided to finally pick it up. I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I did.

I have been in a reading slump for months and just could not finish a book but this one brought me out of it, and I flew through it in a day or two. Believe me, I never finish a book that fast so you can imagine how captivated I was.

I loved the story, characters and setting from the beginning and got more excited to continue the story as each chapter passed. If you are looking for a fantasy with a similar vibe to the ACOTAR books by Sarah J. Maas, this one is definitely for you!

Get a Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters #1)
by Talia Hibbert

R A T I N G :

I have seen The Brown Sister books everywhere in the book community lately and just had to finally begin the series. If you are in the mood for a really sweet, steamy and feel-good novel, then this one is for you.

I loved Chloe and Red from the beginning and found myself smiling throughout most of the book. It was a really good read for Valentine’s day and it left me feeling happy and light.

The only problem I had with it was that at times, the relationship of the two characters felt all over the place and a bit unreal. There was no clear point where their relationship began and it left me confused.

Overall, it was quite a good read and I recommend it to any romance lover.

Home Body
by Rupi Kaur

R A T I N G :

Poetry is a genre I find fascinating and it is one that has found a way deep inside my heart. Rupi Kaur’s books were of the first to get me into the genre and so, her newest release was highly anticipated.

If I remember correctly, I think this one is one I related to most out of all her books. I found myself marking almost every poem with a sticky note. The ones that I marked, crept into my heart and it made me feel everything that I am unable to put into words.

A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses #4)
by Sarah J. Maas

R A T I N G :

This one was on the list of my most highly anticipated releases of the year and to me, it did not disappoint at all. I am quite a slow reader but finished this brick of a book in just a few days as I was unable to put it down.

Nesta and Cassian’s story was one we all have been waiting years for and it was so worth it. The story took many turns I definitely did not expect. It was so action and romance packed that it felt as if my heart was racing the entire time I read it.

I found myself relating to Nesta so much throughout the book. Her character spoke to me from the very beginning and I loved the person she turned into by the end of the story. The strong female relationships she built and the path she created for herself was so inspiring and it left me with goosebumps.
