BOOK CLUB | The Dark Academics

This month’s book club read is one I have been wanting to read for such a long time but never had the chance to. I already have many books to get to this month but I will try to pick this one up as well.

This book club is not solely focused on the one genre from what I gathered while watching the hosts’ YouTube videos. Every month, a new book will be chosen and then there will be a live show on the last Saturday where the book will be discussed.

The live show for If We Were Villains will take place on the 25th of July BST time.

Oliver Marks has just served ten years for a murder he may or may not have committed. On the day of his release, he is greeted by the detective who put him in prison. Detective Colborne is retiring, and he wants to know what really happened a decade before.

As a young actor at an elite conservatory, Oliver noticed that his talented classmates seem to play the same characters onstage and off – villain, hero, temptress – though he was always a supporting role. But when the teachers change the casting, a good-natured rivalry turns ugly, and the plays spill dangerously over into real life.

When tragedy strikes, one of the seven friends is found dead. The rest face their greatest acting challenge yet: convincing the police, and themselves, that they are blameless…

I am really looking forward to, hopefully, get to this book this month and if not, really soon. Many thank yous to the hosts for creating this amazing book club!

Keep reading and never stop telling stories.
